Welcome to Curried.Com, where we exalt everything curried. Generally speaking, curry is any type of dish that falls under the taste category of “spicy”. However, strictly speaking, curry is any type of spicy or “hot” dish that is directly from or influenced by cuisine of the Asian region. Curry originated from India, but now has incarnations that exist all over Asia-Pacific region, most notably in Pakistan, Thailand, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and Nepal.
The term “curry” is thought to be derived from the Tamil (an Indian dialect) word “Kari”, which refers to gravy stews that are served and enjoyed with rice. However, some point out that it is just as likely that “curry” came from the word “Kadhi” which in turn came from “Kadhna”, meaning “to simmer”. Others say that it's probably rooted from “Karahi”, an Indian cooking pot.
No matter where the name and the actual food came from, however, we all agree that curry is something quite special. Today, curry can be found and served all over the world. You can buy ingredients for curry and make your own curry from scratch, if you so wish. You can have it mild, you can have it extra spicy, you can create it with any style you want traditional or otherwise – and believe us, it will STILL be good.
